NEWS FROM OUR PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

Students in Kindergarten through high school are required to use the school's P. E. uniforms. Students in grades K-5 will wear their P. E. uniforms to school on the days they have P. E. class. They are required to wear the school's P. E. short and shirt with white socks and appropriate athletic shoes. Their shirts will need to remain tucked in their shorts throughout the entire school day. Be aware that points will be deducted from their grade if they are not outfitted properly for P. E. class. The P. E. uniforms are sold at Sunshine Uniform. Students who do not wear their P. E. uniform to school must wear the regular school uniform to P. E. class.

ELEMENTARY NEWS

The morning bell rings at 7:55 a.m. for elementary students to proceed to their classroom and get settled. This is when the hall doors and campus gates will be locked. If you arrive after this time you will need to proceed to the front office to check in your child. At 8:00 a.m. the bell rings for the start of the school day. Students need to be in their classroom and ready for morning devotions by 8:05 a.m. Please take this opportunity to "model" punctuality and respect for our children. Your cooperation is appreciated.

STARTING THE DAY IN THE LORD

Starting at 8:05 a.m. every morning, PreK-5th grades participate in school-wide devotions over the PA system. To ensure that this time with the Lord receives the consideration it deserves we are asking that all students arrive at school promptly. We appreciate your support in this area.

STUDENT PICK-UP PROCEDURE

To speed up the flow of traffic and ensure the safe dismissal of the students, please familiarize yourself with these procedures. If you have a student in Pre-K thru 5th grade, you have been given 2 color name place cards. These are to be displayed in the windshield of your car: either on the dash or on the visor of the passenger's side of your vehicle. Be aware that the other lane closest to the building is a pick-up lane and the other lane is for thru traffic only. There is NO parking in the pick-up area between 7:00 a.m.-8:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. &endash; 3:30 p.m.

Remember, if someone different is picking up your child, his or her teacher needs to have a note from you with the name of that person picking up your child. The person who comes to pick up your child MUST present the teacher with a photo identification before your child will be released.

PLEASE HELP US BY DOING YOUR PART:y

1. Pull as far forward in the pick-up lane as possible. Please do not stop by the bench where your child is sitting.

2. The teachers will help the children into the cars. Encourage your child to wait for teacher assistance. Please stay in your car during the pick-up procedure.

3. If your child is not yet at the pick-up area, pull around and get back in the pick-up lane.

4. Never ask your child to get in the vehicle when you are in the thru-traffic only lane.

5. Always use the crosswalk when walking up to pick up your child.

6. Please model patience and courtesy to the children at this time!

SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS NEEDED

FLCS is hoping to expand our pool of substitute teachers. If you are interested in working in the classroom to fill in during a teacher's absence, contact Mary Travers at travers@flcs.org or 954-972-3444 for the qualifications.

INFORMATION ON BOXTOPS FOR EDUCATION

We will be saving all of the Box Tops we can and not the soup labels. I know that in the past we collected the soup labels, but now Campbell's has changed the reward system and we only collect the Box Tops for Education now. Save the Box tops and turn them into your child's classroom. Each classroom will be added and the one with the most Box Tops will have an end of the year pizza party. So start saving today.

FLCS BAND OPPORTUNITY

As many of you already know, this is the first time in several years that we have had a FLCS Band. Although it is a building year, the new FLCS Band is making "beautiful music." With their first performance behind them, the students are excited about the next level. As we look to the future we see so much potential and envision the program encompassing elementary, middle, and high school students. However, we need to "crawl before we run." Our immediate concern is procuring a bass drum with stand and appropriate mallets, which costs approximately $1200. If you or your business would like an opportunity to invest in the FLCS band program, please contact either Ms Steenwyk (steenwyk@flcs.org) or Mrs. Travers (travers@flcs.org) by email or phone (954-972-3444). Your gift would be tax deductible.
